Andy Pettitte, who is one of the most popular Yankees in recent history, has announced his intention to retire after pitching for 16 seasons.

There was much speculation this off-season whether or not Pettitte was going to come back for another year.  Until today, Pettitte had been saying he wasn't sure if he was going to come back and the Yankees were waiting to hear from him.

Derek Jeter is one of the all-time great Yankees and no one can deny this.  He has been the face of the Yankees for nearly 15 years and has played for them like a hall of famer throughout his career.  Even playing in the media frenzy of New York City, he has never been caught or seen doing anything which could be portrayed as negative.  Basically, Jeter has been a model player that any team would have been proud to have.

With the conclusion of the World Series and the recent passing of the deadline for teams to negotiate exclusively with their outgoing players, it’s officially Free Agent Season in Major League Baseball.

While one free agent can’t make a terrible team into a contender, many teams will be looking to find the one or two players that can take them from a wild card contender to a division favorite.
